Palace are now a mid-table side? Only because they have the worst record in the major European leagues since Christmas and have slid down the table. Pardew has admitted they're in a relegation battle.

they'll get to 40 points, isn't that a raving success for palace fans?

What Sven says. Newcastle fans are totally disillusioned and gave him serious abuse. I think he did a good job there considering Ashley undermining him all the time.?

Palace are now a midtable side which they have never been previously.
Newcastle are relegation fodder after spending millions. Which they weren't under Pardew.

Great insight there, V son.

Not sure I believe the boom-bust reputation he has. Every manager's teams has good and bad runs of form, not sure he's any different.

Fhe's the kind of manager to dig you out of a hole but you should get shot of him quickly after that. He has a place for sure.

You know you may be right, because with probably any club he has managed after a few years Pardew does have that restless I've had enough look.

I have mixed feeling about him as I think for me 2005/6 was such a good season and best since 86. With more time and resource could he have turned it around?

I think he was pretty committed to West Ham as for his personal life 'he who has not sinned etc' .

So I wish him well as long as its doesn't conflict with West Ham.

Re: Pardew next for the sack?
There are managerial people who can go and shake things up and get things going. Long term management is a slow methodical intricately planned business needing constant close attention. I'm guessing he's not so good at being the second type of manager.

Re: Pardew next for the sack?
The funny thing is that In Interviews he is actually nicer and more down to earth where as when he was doing very well he was miserable and touchy with a big dollop of arrogance.

The thing about Pardew is he is actually very acceptable and likeable if he is the manager of your club and not trying to mount the players wives, but when he manages another team he becomes Marmite , with the majority on the hate side.

Re: Pardew next for the sack?
I think he's clearly not the sort of person to lead or help a struggling team. Maybe his ego is the issue there, but his tenures at his club's follow very similar patterns of relatively great success ( our cup final season, Newcastle too 5 and close to the champions league) followed by mammoth collapses. He seems able to maintain and push a level of momentum to a point, but once a couple of losses sneak in and confidence wanes, he seems to lack the motivation skills or tactical nous to turn it back around

I sort of see him like a cocky matey type boss ( not quite David Brent level) who seems charming and funny and who you'd happily go out on the lash with when things a real good, but when they go wrong and you're a bit down or struggling that same attitude is irritating as fuck and becomes devisive

I agree with most of that. Many players under Pardew appreciated in value, and that's to his credit. But I still say his overall transfer record was a mixed bag. The gems were Benayoun and Reo-Coker. Harewood and Mullins we got through exploiting their contract situations - there was no mystery that they were good players.

Similar to Allardyce, a key part of the transfer strategy for getting us promoted was hoovering up the well-paid veterans that other clubs probably couldn't afford to bring in (Mackay, Deane, Sheringham, Powell etc). It's just utilising the financial muscle we had at that level. The problem with that approach is that you have a squad that probably needs rebuilding again and again. I think both Allardyce and Pardew get over-praised for promotion - it's a tough division to get out of, but they both did it with a massive advantage over the field by utilising short-termist regressive measures.

Huge credit for that first prem season, but realistically it was an outlier in that nobody got injured. We probably had 13/14 prem standard players with a point to prove on promotion. Few of them matched that level again, certainly many struggled the season after. By the time he was sacked, the club was in a right old pickle again.

But how may of BFS' Championship signings have been sold on for multi million pound profits? Or even forged successful long term Premier league careers? Looking at our squad from that season only Noble, Tomkins and Reid can be considered to be regular top flight players four years on - and all three were players that were at the club before Sam arrived (although he deserves some credit for the improvement in Reid's game).

Pards not only got us promoted, but did so by identifiying players who weren't just there to do a job to get us up but flourished in the top flight. Not saying there weren't Jobi McAnuffs and Adam Newtons along the way, but his success along the way was startling.

P.S. Just to correct my previous post, Etherington wasn't actually a Pards signing. Although I'll add Gabbidon to the list of players who he brought in but could have been sold on for far more than we signed for.

Re: Pardew next for the sack?
He's definitely lost his swagger. Not surprised after getting 3 points from a possible 27. Think he's a bit of a wanker. All my cousins are Palace and first half of season it was all 'The Messiah has come home' blah blah blah. They have gone very quiet of late.

Re: Pardew next for the sack?
The fact that I liked him and I was impressed with the job he did, which made the downward spiral in results and team togetherness that we had that much more disappointing.

Whereas Allardyce was just someone that managed our club and achieved certain strategic results, I thought Pardew had the potential to go on to be a West Ham manager before he got all bertie big nuts.

In business terms he's more of a consultant than a management stalwart, able to energise and bring about a quick turn around but able to stay the distance.

Don't wish the sack on him though or Allardyce frankly.

All my energy goes into supporting the best manager we have had in a decade and finishing off the last slice of humble pie I have to eat because I had doubts over him.

No doubts Benayoun was a great find, but I think some of the others were gimmies when we were the big club in the championship. The division was a bit of a twilight zone at the time and we were the only real destination for contract rebels like Harewood and Mullins and the free transfer mercs that helped get us out of the league. Very similar to the situation with Allardyce actually where we bought two of the league's top scorers in Jan just because we could!
